MAKE THE HOLIDAYS BRIGHTER FOR A LOCAL FAMILY

The holiday season is a time for giving, coming together, and making memories. For families facing financial challenges, however, the holidays can also bring additional stress and uncertainty.

This holiday season, Help for Kids is bringing our community together to support local children and families through our Adopt a Family initiative.

By adopting a child or family, you can help provide gifts and holiday essentials while showing a local family that their community cares about them. Read our family stories to see the meaningful impact your generosity can have on the families we serve!

GIVE THE GIFT OF JOY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

The families we serve through Help for Kids programs work hard every day to provide safe, healthy, and nurturing environments for their children. During the holidays, your support can make a meaningful difference.

A gift may be something a child has wished for all year. It may provide a parent with relief during an especially difficult time. Most importantly, it can help a family experience the joy of the holiday season without the added worry of making ends meet.

Your generosity can help make the holidays a little brighter for a family right here in our Fairfield County community!

TRANSFORMATIVE STORIES FROM OUR CT COMMUNITIES

Over the past two and a half years with Help for Kids, J. has shown incredible dedication to reaching her goals and growing as a mother. As a devoted mom to her two sons, she is always eager to learn, embrace new opportunities, and support her children’s development. Through her journey, she has built a strong foundation of knowledge about community resources and is always willing to share that knowledge with other moms.

With support from her Family Support Specialist, J. spent a year preparing herself and her youngest son for the important milestone of starting daycare. This fall, he began a full-time program while J. takes on part-time work and launches her own food truck business, a goal she worked tirelessly toward for nearly a year to secure the necessary permits and licenses.

Along the way, J. has celebrated countless milestones, from her children’s first steps and words to earning her driver’s license, purchasing a car, pursuing ESL classes, and building her own business. Her journey is a testament to her perseverance, growth, and commitment to creating a brighter future for her family!

    Story 4

When M. joined Help for Kids during her third trimester of pregnancy, she was navigating the challenges of raising a family in a country with unfamiliar systems and resources. With a 10-year-old daughter and a new baby on the way, she had questions about child development and wanted to build a strong foundation for her growing family.

With guidance from her Family Support Specialist, M. connected with WIC and SNAP, strengthened her advocacy skills, and helped her daughter gain acceptance into a magnet school. Throughout her time in the program, M. and her partner have continued working toward greater stability, moving into a larger apartment, maintaining full-time employment, and purchasing a new car.

    M. remains eager to learn and has embraced strategies that have positively changed her family’s dynamic. Her journey demonstrates how access to resources, knowledge, and ongoing support can empower parents to advocate for their children and create a brighter future for their families!

    Story 3

When L. joined Help for Kids, she was seven months pregnant and navigating the challenges of raising a child in a new country and unfamiliar environment. Although she brought knowledge and experience from her own upbringing, she wanted to better understand child development and parenting practices in the United States.

Throughout her time in the program, L. worked to break generational patterns by reflecting on her own childhood and choosing positive parenting practices for her son. With continued support and encouragement from her Family Support Specialist, she secured full-time employment, enrolled her child in Head Start, purchased a car with her partner, and connected with Birth to Three services.

Today, L. consistently shows her son love and affection, engages him through play and conversation, and creates a nurturing environment that supports his healthy development. Her journey reflects a mother’s commitment to building a brighter future for her child while creating new opportunities for their family!

    Story 2

When I. first began working with Help for Kids, she was closed off and hesitant to open up while facing significant challenges, including no income, no support from her baby’s father, and difficulties at home. She worried about whether she and her baby would have enough to eat.

Over time, I. began opening up and sharing her struggles. With support from her FSS, she received food, clothing, a safe sleep pack-and-play, and connections to community resources. She worked hard to follow through on recommendations, independently applied for SNAP benefits, connected with additional services, and learned to advocate for her baby at medical appointments.

    I. went on to find a job and continued pushing forward even after a workplace injury. Throughout her journey, she consistently demonstrated strength and determination, advocating for herself and her baby time and time again.

Her story reflects the power of a mother’s resilience and what can happen when a family has access to the resources, guidance, and support needed to move forward!
